Detail Itinerary of Everest Base Camp Short Trek – 10 days

Let’s start the world’s most impeccable and thrilling journey. During the spring and Autumn, our trip starts fairly early in the morning. We’ll have a direct flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, or we’ll route to Manthali 4-5 hours by driving and re-route to Lukla by flight.

The journey from Kathmandu to Lukla will be around 30-35 minutes by flight. If you travel from December to Feb, we have a direct flight to Lukla from the capital city of Nepal.

Lukla is the starting point for the Everest Base Camp trek. After reaching there, we’ll rest for some time. Upon that, we’ll take our steps to Phakding.

During our hiking, we’ll see the majestic valleys, lush green forest and several small monasteries. At the end of the day, we’ll reach Phakding, where we’ll have a night’s stay and a delicious dinner.

(Note: To avoid lengthy and complicated drive; you can easily book Helicopter from Kathmandu to Lukla. However, you have to pay extra charges for it.)

Drinking water Facilities

The drinking water is easily available throughout the Everest route. You’ll find small tea houses, lodges and shops where you can easily purchase. However, the prices may ranges from 200 to 400 NPR also varying on the altitudes.

There are majority of tea houses and shops also offers boiled water to the hikers. It will be helpful and best for your health. After boiling, it kills the bacteria and becomes safe for the consumption.

It will be better; if you refill the bottle when you are in the lower region. Aside from this, you may also use water purification tablets which you can easily purchase in Kathmandu.

(Note: Be conscious about your health and don’t grasp water from taps, well or rivers during your hiking routes.)

Food & Meals Availability during the Trek

Breakfast: It is the first meals of the day. Usually, we serve around 6-8 a.m. It is filled with full of nutrition’s, proteins and high dietary fiber that energizes you all the day. Here are the food menus:

Ideal Season for the Everest Base Camp Short Trek

Nepal has basically 4 seasons – Spring (March, April & May), Autumn (Sep, Oct, Nov), Winter (Dec, Jan, Feb) and Monsoon (Jun, July, August). You may trek to Everest Base camp throughout all the years. However, we recommending you which season are best and why?

Spring (March to May) – If you are planning for Everest Base Camp trek, the spring would be the best option for you. During this time, the weather is mild and favourable to the hikers. The skies are clear and there are less chances of rain. In addition, throughout the trekking route, you’ll be overwhelmed by seeing the blossoming rhododendron forests, flawless mountains and many more.

Autumn ( Sep-Nov) –  Autumn can be a promising time for the short trekking in the Everest region. The monsoon has just ended. The weather becomes cool and pleasant. Furthermore, there is no chance of rain. As a result, your trek becomes impeccable and hassle-free. Besides this, there are no any obstacles like mudflows, slippery trails or landslides throughout the journey. Above all, you’ll also get a chance to be a part of Nepalese major festivals (Dashain & Tihar) which are celebrated from late October to mid-November.

Winter Season (Dec, Jan, Feb) – Extreme low temperature, chilling weather and heavy snow fall are the characteristics of winter season. If you are planning to trek during late Dec to Feb; you have to face these severe problems.

Despite of these some issue; several hikers enjoy and love trekking in winter. There will be fewer crowds, snow-covered mountains. Furthermore, the tea houses and lodges also welcome their visitor in winter season.

Monsoon (June, July, and August):  Monsoon is the 4th best option for the Everest Base Camp short trek. There are very less number of trekker’s during the rainy season.

During these months there are high probabilities of rain everywhere. As a result, trekkers faces the problems of landslides, mud flows, slippery trails, flight cancellation and several other issue.

How will be my day during the Everest Base Camp short trek?

Usually, our day starts with hot drinks like tea (Milk, Lemon, Himalayan) and tasty breakfast.  Then our trek starts around 5-6 am, also depends in which season our trek has been commenced.

After some hours of hiking, we’ll have lunch. Following, we’ll rest for some time. Then we trek till the sun goes down. At the end of the day, we’ll stay at tea house where we have comfortable bed and mouthwatering foods.

Preparation and Remedies of the Everest Base Camp Short Trek

The 10 Everest Base Camp short trek offer scenic views of landscapes, snow-capped mountains, lush green forests and many more.  Somehow it is easier than other treks in Nepal. However, that doesn’t mean you don’t need preparation.

For this trek, you should reasonably have a good level of physical fitness.  You should practice & prepare at least 3-4 weeks before departure to Nepal.

What is the difficulty level of Everest Base Camp Short Trek?

Everest Base Camp Short trek is considered a moderately difficult journey to complete the journey in 10 days. While it doesn’t require mountaineering skills. However, you should have a reasonable level of fitness to complete the trek.

Throughout the trek, you have to walk 4-6 hours on average every day.  During your journey, you have to undergoes the rugged trains, several ascents and descents. It is a short trek, particularly 10 days, and doesn’t have any acclimatization days.

The highest elevation of this trek is more than 5,500 meters; there are chances of altitude sickness due to the decrease in oxygen levels. One should have a good level of cardiovascular strength and physical endurance to complete this trek.

Is Short Trek Everest suitable for the beginners?

Yes, the Short Everest Trek is likely to be possible for beginners. It is more manageable and easier the Everest Base Camp short trek. You have to start with the lower altitude that decreases the chances of health symptoms like nausea, vomiting, dizziness and several other health issues.

Permits and Documents for the Everest Base Camp Short Trek

You have to take permission from the Nepal tourism authority to conquer trek in the Everest region. There are two necessary permits.

  • Sagarmatha National Park Permit
  • Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Manaslu Permit

These both permits can be easily obtained from Kathmandu, Nepal Tourism Board or also from Monjo or Lukla.  The tourism board takes permits to built trails, infrastructure and overall development of the people of that area.

For the Khumbu Pasang you have to pay around 2000-3000 NPR. For Sagarmatha National Park Permit one has to pay 2500-3000 NPR (EXCLUDING vat).

Documents you need to submit

  • A valid passport for all foreign trekkers
  • Your passport has validity of at least six months before entry in Nepal.
  • A Valid TIM’S Card (Trekker’s Information Management System)
  • You need to submit photocopy of your passport before taking permit
  • To apply, you need to submit 2 to 5 passport size photographs
  • Foreign trekkers needed a Tourist VISA (obtainable from Kathmandu Airport)
