Trip Information

Best Time

It’s the ultimate fusion of adventure and comfort on this Everest Base Camp trek with helicopter return. Throughout the year, each season offers you unique, surreal experiences that you may have never encountered before and can leave you with a lifetime memory, along with pros and cons that can help you decide when to go.

Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are the most favourable seasons and are considered the prime times of the year. During the spring season, trekkers will be welcomed by the blooming of various wildflowers, filling the air with their fragrance, making the excursions delightful. In autumn, the landscapes are adorned with peaceful golden hues.

However, as this time is the peak season, you can expect busy, vibrant trails with trekkers from all around the world, and the local villages buzz with activity, as autumn is also the time of Nepal’s main festivals, Dashain and Tihar, resulting in crowded tea houses which can be fully booked unless you pre-book early due to high demand.

The summer/monsoon and the winter seasons offer a quieter and more peaceful experience, creating a suitable environment for those who prefer solitude. Summer brings lush greenery after the crowds have dispersed, while winter rewards you with crystal-clear skies and snow-blanketed peaks. Though contrasting, both seasons offer their unique charm to travelers.

However, some formidable challenges exist in these seasons; for instance, summer trails can be muddy, with leeches and frequent flight delays, while winter brings harsh freezing temperatures, which can make you feel like you’re experiencing frostbite.

Finally, despite all these hurdles while ascending to your destination, there’s a highlight on the final day — the helicopter return. Flying over all the routes and landscapes you’ve walked offers a jaw-dropping bird’s-eye view, making you feel nostalgic, as if you’ve already walked through those paths before. From the air, you can experience both close and wide-range views of your journey.

Elevation and distance

On this spectacular Everest Base Camp Trek with Helicopter Return package adventure, your real trekking adventure begins in Lukla town, located in the Everest region at an elevation of 2840 meters. From here, you would walk to Phakding Village at 2610 meters, losing some elevation.

Similarly, this journey includes acclimatization days at Namche Bazaar, at 3440 meters, and Dingboche, at 4410 meters, allowing your body to adjust to the increasing altitude. Similarly, you will reach the foot of Mount Everest at 5364 meters to witness the 360-degree natural panoramas. On the next day, you will get to the 5550-meter summit of Kala Patthar to enjoy a beautiful sunrise.

On the other hand, you will have to hike for a total trekking distance of 70 kilometers (43.5 miles) on this Everest Base Camp Trek with Helicopter Return journey. You will cover a total of around 7.5 kilometers when going on side hikes to Everest View Hotel and Nangkartshang Peak.

Difficulty and altitude sickness

During this trek, trekkers encounter some challenges, as they must cover rugged terrain daily, often hiking 5–8 hours while gaining elevation quickly. As you ascend, you can experience the thinning air above 3,000 meters, which results in physical strain, especially between Namche Bazaar and Gorak Shep. In short, landing is easier, but taking off and climbing are still hard.

However, altitude sickness, particularly acute mountain sickness (AMS), is a serious concern.  Dizziness, headache, nausea, and exhaustion are typical symptoms.  It can worsen into potentially fatal illnesses like HAPE or HACE if treatment is delayed.

When you trek to places like Dingboche, Lobuche, and Gorak Shep, the danger factor rises a lot as a result of even more elevated conditions. However, the itinerary involves breaks in Namche Bazaar and Dingboche, thus making the human body naturally conform to the adapted conditions.

The local guide will also provide instructions that should be listened carefully, and you should also go up the mountains at a slow pace, take in enough fluids, eat appropriately, and not drink alcohol.

Maximum and minimum walk per day

The Everest Base Camp Trek with Helicopter Return requires you to trek to Base Camp, but you won’t have to walk back. You will need to walk continuously for 9 days in the Solu Khumbu region, including the acclimatization days. The medium range of walking in this journey would be about five to six hours regularly.

The minimum hike you will walk on day 10 would be about two to three hours, as you summit Kala Patthar from Gorak Shep, since you don’t have to retrace your steps. Similarly, the maximum hike you will walk per day will be on day 9, which is about seven to eight hours when embarking on the thrilling adventure from Lobuche to Gorak Shep and then exploring the Everest Base Camp and again back to Gorak Shep for an overnight stay.

Accommodation, Food and Drink

11-day EBC trek with helicopter return package, offers accommodation with both comfort and an authentic experience. In which you’ll spend 2 nights in Kathmandu at a hotel on a BB plan (Bed and Breakfast) based on twin-sharing rooms, which is also the same for 8 nights along the route, which is in traditional tea houses.

For instance, the basic facilities like beds, warm blankets, and shared bedrooms with a welcoming environment are available in tea houses, which are also run by the local families. It is not luxurious, yet it offers a genuine glimpse into the hospitality of the Himalayas.

Furthermore, the meals on your trip are well organized to keep you energized throughout the trek. This package includes three meals a day (9 breakfasts, nine lunches, and eight dinners) at tea houses, offering an ultimate blend of local and continental options. Additionally, the breakfast includes porridge, pancakes, or eggs, while lunch and dinner are typically from Dal Bhat, fried rice, and noodles to pasta and warm soups.

Standard drinking water is readily provided along the trekking route, which can be purified using tablets or purchased as bottled water at tea houses. Hot drinks like coffee and herbal teas are commonly offered with meals. Local beverages such as ginger tea or lemon honey tea, and local spirits are served at some tea houses.
